NHS staff in Lancashire are invited to take part in an 8-week challenge on the free BetterPoints app, which will reward you and your workplace for getting around in healthier and greener ways.
BetterPoints is a behaviour change app that rewards people for walking, wheeling, cycling, public transport and car-share. The rewards you earn can be spent with local and national businesses or donated to charity. Once you have signed up and joined the challenge, just pop your phone in your pocket as you go about your day - the app will do the rest.
Whether it’s by taking the bus to work, cycling to the shops, or simply getting more active in your day, you can earn exclusive rewards and win prizes by taking part in the challenge, including an e-bike worth £1,299 and a £100 voucher. Not only that you can help your workplace win £100 for their official charity.

When does the challenge start?
- Sign up from 23 January
- Leaderboard challenge goes live on 1 February
- Last day 31 March.
Which workplaces are taking part?
- Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
- University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust
- East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust
- Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust
- Lancashire ICB & Primary Care.
When you join the challenge you will be asked to select your workplace.
What rewards can I win?
There will be daily prize draws for BetterPoints (the digital currency in the app). Every walk, wheel, cycle, bus, train or car-share trip will earn entries to these draws and help your workplace climb the leaderboard. You can also earn BetterPoints every time you refer a colleague to the challenge via the app.
The Trust that finishes first come the end of the challenge will win £100 for their official charity. Plus, one person from the first-place Trust will win a Batribike e-bike worth £1,299 (see below) and another person will win a £100 Proviz gift-card.
How can our workplace win?
The leaderboard will be ranked by engagement i.e. the Trust that can encourage the most colleagues to take part relative to the total staff size. There will be a just-for-fun leaderboard as well showing which Trust has saved the most CO2.
So the task is simple, for your chance to win a big prize for you and for charity, spread the word to as many of your colleagues as possible!
Are there any other rewards available?
Yes! By signing up to the challenge you will automatically be added to BetterPoints Lancashire, a rewards programme available to anyone who lives, works or studies in Lancashire until at least 31 December 2026. Visit the Challenges section along the bottom of your app for details on what rewards you can earn.
Can I take part if I don't live in Lancashire?
Yes! You don't need to live in Lancashire to join the NHS Leaderboard Challenge or BetterPoints Lancashire. However, most rewards in the BetterPoints Lancashire programme are available for journeys that start and/or finish within Lancashire. If you live outside of Lancashire and don’t often travel in, you may earn fewer rewards and prize draw entries. That said, BetterPoints also runs national challenges that anyone can join, wherever they live. And with plenty of motivation on offer beyond financial rewards, it’s still well worth giving it a go after the NHS Leaderboard Challenge has finished.
